Community EFT at the Zandspruit informal settlement

Approximately 10 percent of South Africa’s population live in an “informal settlement”. Living conditions within the settlements are very poor. Residents are continually faced with a range of dire situations from poor access to basic sanitation and water supply to solid waste accumulation. Fires are common and personal safety and security risks are high. Zandspruit Informal settlement is situated in Honeydew, north of Johannesburg. It is densely a populated area with approximately 80,000 inhabitants. It is one of the oldest, least developed and fastest growing informal settlements in the Johannesburg area.

I was fortunate enough to be given an opportunity to facilitate an EFT session to eight members of staff who work at the Emthonjeni Community Centre in Zandspruit. I used the opportunity to introduce the basic concepts of  EFT and tapping. Thereafter I asked for volunteers and we did a “Borrowing Benefits” session for about 45 minutes. The EFT was well received and the effects almost immediate. Feedback included:

I wanted to laugh and cry at the same time;

I felt a warm feeling all inside my body;

I feel happy about the future for my children;

I have some thoughts and ideas on growing EFT in the community. I will be doing more EFT at the centre towards the end of September and will start to implement these ideas and see how they take shape. Watch this space as I will document the progress and results!
